Plastic floor tiles are known for some time. The vast potential of plastics in various fields fully exploited and many new fields are being exported. Applications in many fields which were considered farfetched some time ago are today a reality if not very nearly so. Artificial synthetic marble the invention of the developing affordable resort, virtually replacing the use of natural marble. Five major areas of polyester resin applications have been indentified in building industry. Roofing is perhaps the oldest application of polyester resins in building industry. Decorative flooring includes terroazzo type flooring as well as merlulized flooring. Chemically an unsaturated polyester filled with crushed marble is cross-linked with triethanolamine titanate and cume hydroperoxide the product is a moldable artificial marble. Silica and calcium carbonate-filled polyester grouting compositions called   cultured marble.   Plastic concrete, and vitroplast were developed in the early 1950s.
