The increasing awareness to conserve the limited natural resources made the packaging designers to look for new synthetic materials, which can successfully meet the packaging requirements. This has partly been achieved by making use of plastics in various forms because of their many attractive properties and processing advantages. One such application of plastic materials is in the form of thin film which occupies an important position in today's packaging field. Since the functional needs of the final package can not often be fulfilled by a single material, it was necessary to develop multi-layer packaging systems. The choice of such composites is governed by several factors which include the extent of protection required against atmospheric conditions and mechanical abuse, the expected shelf life and the ability to be used on automated packaging equipment.
