Ferro Manganese/Silico Manganese By Electric Furnace Process

The largest tonnage manganese addition alloy used in the steel industry is high carbon Ferro Manganese commonly known as standard ferro manganese of the average overall usage of 7.5kg. mn/t steel 75% is supplied as the high carbon alloy. Until recently most high carbon Ferro Manganese used by the steel industry was produced in a blast furnace process similar to the production of iron the balance was produced in electric furnaces. To take up the shortfall and satisfy the increased demand ferro manganese resulting from the large increase in production of steel many new large high carbon ferro manganese electric furnaces have been built ranging from 20 to 40 mw in size. Ferro Manganese encompasses a wide horizon of application in various fields viz. in the manufacture of tool steels structural steel special steels having high manganese content as well as alloying element in metallurgical ioerations and a hostful of other uses. Silico Manganese is an alloy of manganese and iron that contains 18.25% silicon and is available in various grades. Their prominience attributes to their usage for springs and high - strength structural steel, etc.
