The industry of even smaller capacity is possible which can suit the S.S.I. parameters but the economy of scales is always there. The improving industrial climate, greater emphasis on oil exploration, power generation and the nuclear programme have improved prospects for the Indian steel pipes and tubes industry, despite some temporary difficulties created by official policy. It now manufacturers items like seamless tubes and speciality pipes for use in oil exploration and drilling, conveyance of petroleum and gas, the chemical and fertiliser industries, nuclear plants etc. a and more speciality products are on the cards.
