Among the nonlining and lining things, however, there is a material which finds this category perfectly that is PTFE. Like a true ascetic, PTFE remains untouched even in the most corrosive environment. Not even aqua-regia, the powerful chemical which can dissolve gold, can affect it.PTFE lining has acquired unique place among materials of industrial importance, by virtue of its remarkable stability and non-adhesive property. What has made PTFE the prince of plastics. It is the C.F (carbon fluorine) bond, a bond formed with Fluorine, the mightiest of all nonmetals. The birth of PTFE came about through an accident the story is a cylinder containing a gas made of fluorine and carbon atoms (tetrafluoroetheylene) was left standing in a place for quite sometime. A little oxygen from the surrounding air leaked in and initiated a process which converted the gas into a semisolid as a resin. When the cylinder weighed as it full but no gas came out, the researchers became curious and cut open the cylinder to find a new substance. What actually had happened was, the small molecules of tetraflouroethylene had joined together into long chainlike molecules, a process known as polymerization to chemists.
